The village of Artà

(spelt Artà), which is actually a village as it only has around 7400 inhabitants, is located in the north-east of Mallorca.

Artà

is surrounded by mountains and beautiful little bays (including sandy beaches). This charming little town with its numerous restaurants, bars and cafés is sure to enchant you. Mallorca is usually not foreign to us Germans, so why not visit the town of Artà when you are on holiday on the beautiful island of Mallorca?

has a lot of sights to offer. Arta is one of the quieter places on the island of Mallorca. Tourism also takes place here, but mostly without roaring and loud music. There are plenty of shopping, shopping, leisure and accommodation options.

A state of emergency! – In the summer of August, the town of Arta celebrates its summer festival for around 1.5 weeks in a row. Live music and lots of people. Thousands of people come and the music goes on until the early hours of the morning. The nice thing about it is that nobody complains – whether young or old, everyone celebrates and dances together.

Sant Antoni on 16 January
is similarly spectacular in winter on Mallorca in Arta. Although the festival actually only takes place for 2 days. The devils (Dimonis) rage in the evening and the next day the animals are blessed. Everyone who has a carriage presents themselves in a huge column and celebrates. Everyone should have a drink with everyone else, the bottles are gladly shared.

Artà & Origin

Artà was first mentioned in 1232 under the name Yartân in the Llibre de repartiment de mallorca (Jaume I). Later there were also spellings Jartan or Jertan. The origin of the name is derived from ‘Gertan’, the Arabic word for garden.

The settlement of Colònia de Sant Pere

Colònia de Sant Pere

which was founded in 1880, was built on the east side of the bay of Alcúdia. Next to the Colònia de Sant Pere urbanisation is the small, remote settlement of Betlem from Artà on the east coast of Mallorca.

The small harbour of Colònia de Sant Pere is often visited by small yachts and is even home to a few fishing boats…
